DIY Face Mask: Protect Yourself in Style
In the current scenario where face masks have become part of our daily fashion, why not make it fun and creative while we’re at it? With this do-it-yourself (DIY) face mask guide, you’ll have a reusable, comfortable, and stylish alternative to those disposable masks. The best part? Beginners can easily follow along!
## Material Needed:
- Cotton Fabric
- Round Elastic (comfortable to wear around your ears)
- Sewing machine (you can also hand sew this project)
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Ruler
## Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Measure and Cut the Fabric: You’ll need two pieces of fabric, both 7.5 inches long and 5 inches wide.
- Sew the Fabric: Place your fabric pieces together with the “right” or patterned sides facing each other. Sew along the longer side of the fabric, leave a gap of about an inch.
- Turn the Fabric: Flip the fabric right side out from the gap that was just left.
- Add Pleats: Create three evenly spaced pleats and pin them in place. Then sew around the perimeter of the fabric once again, near the edge, making sure to close up the gap left in step 2.
- Add the Elastics: Lastly, take your elastic pieces (each piece should be about 6 inches long), tack them in place at the corners of your fabric, and sew over them a few times for extra reinforcement.
And voila! You now have a homemade reusable fabric mask!
Don’t forget, these masks are not a replacement for medical-grade masks, but if you’re required to go outside or into public places, these are a great option. They are washable and reusable and, of course, an excellent opportunity to express your style.
Stay safe, and remember, in these challenging times, creativity can be our greatest relief.
